Mac v1.0.0 — the first Mac release

Mac · Unreleased The whole Mac app — cleaner, monitor, and MCP server — hardened by a full production audit.

Highlights

  • One window, Apple-native. Overview, Clean (System Junk, Developer, Large & Old Files, Duplicates, Photos & Media), Apps (Applications, Leftovers, Login Items), Insights, and a full system monitor with thirteen dashboards. Quitting works even with a sheet open, and switching areas as fast as you like no longer trips an AppKit toolbar crash.
  • Sizes and review order are honest. Folder rows show what is really inside, nested suggestions are not counted twice, and the riskiest actions lead the review instead of hiding at the bottom. The cleanup posture setting now really changes what is proposed.
  • Nothing fails silently. Skipped AI classification and locations the safety rules refuse surface as scan notices, every loading surface shows skeletons until data arrives, and undoing from the menu bar asks the same why-question as undoing in History.
  • A monitor and an MCP server. Thirteen dashboards where helpers roll into their app, a process inspector with code signature and ports, menu bar items, a year of local history, alerts, a terminal command, and read-only MCP tools for AI assistants.
  • Verified end to end. 582 automated tests, a scripted MCP check-in, a headless maintenance run that only merges exact duplicates into clones, and a live pass of scan → review → approve → execute → undo.

Release notes

TidyByte for Mac is the desktop half of TidyByte: it finds caches, developer files, duplicates, old downloads, and app leftovers, explains every proposal, and changes nothing until you approve. This first release went through a full production audit — crashes, silent failures, misleading sizes, and every untested surface were chased down on fixture sandboxes, and these pages describe exactly what shipped. Everything runs on your Mac, with no account, no ads and no subscription.

v1.1.3 — Faster on large libraries

Latest iPhone release Gets the first photo on screen sooner and makes photo-access recovery clearer.

Highlights

  • Faster first card. On large libraries, the first swipe card now appears in about a second. Photos load while the app scans, and Storage and Cleanup open much sooner.
  • Photo-access recovery. If photos do not load or albums look empty, TidyByte explains why and gives exact steps, with buttons for Settings, choosing photos, and trying again.
  • Recently Deleted notice. It no longer hides under the tab bar.

Release notes

Faster on large libraries: the first swipe card now appears in about a second, photos load while the app scans, and Storage and Cleanup open much sooner. If your photos did not load, or albums looked empty, TidyByte now tells you why. When iOS shares no photos with the app, or a permission is stuck, you get the exact steps to fix it, with buttons for Settings, choosing photos, and trying again. The Recently Deleted notice no longer hides under the tab bar. Everything still runs on your device: no account, no ads, no subscription.

v1.1.1 — iPhone Duo, and the review fixes

Latest iPhone release Adapts to both iPhone Duo displays, and fixes what a full review of 1.1.0 turned up.

Highlights

  • iPhone Duo. TidyByte now runs on the foldable and lays out for both displays — the swipe deck, the cleanup hub, Duplicates, Storage and Activity each render on the outer and inner screens.
  • Swipe correctness in Arabic and Hebrew. A right-drag could show the green Keep stamp and delete the photo anyway: the drag stamp mirrored the horizontal axis for right-to-left layout, but the commit did not. The stamp decision now mirrors the same axis as the commit.
  • Language switching no longer loses work. Changing language mid-session rebuilt the whole tab tree, which destroyed a live swipe session and silently dropped its uncommitted deletions before the completion review could run.
  • English text in 20 languages. Five view-model summaries and the scan-progress line rendered in English whatever language you chose; they now go through the string catalog.
  • Four checks that could not fail now fail on the case they exist for: an empty App Store screenshot set, a banned API inside a string interpolation, a stale growth-render cache, and keyword rules skipped for English.

Release notes

TidyByte 1.1.1 is the release that finally ships the iPhone Duo work and the fixes a full review of 1.1.0 turned up. It restores correct swipe behaviour in right-to-left languages, keeps a live swipe session alive across a language change, and moves the last of the hard-coded English into the string catalog. Everything still runs on your device, with no account, no ads and no subscription.

v1.1.0 — 20 languages

TidyByte speaks 20 languages, with full right-to-left layout.

Highlights

  • 20 languages. The whole app is translated, and so is the App Store listing, with full right-to-left layout for Arabic and Hebrew.
  • Region-aware formatting. Dates, sizes and counts follow your region rather than a fixed format.
  • Siri shortcuts in your language. The phrases are localized, not just the labels they trigger.

Release notes

TidyByte now speaks 20 languages, with full right-to-left layout for Arabic and Hebrew. Dates, sizes and counts follow your region, and Siri shortcuts work in your language. Everything still runs on your device, with no account, no ads and no subscription.

v1.0.5 — On-device AI photo search

AI photo search, screen recording cleanup, chat media cleanup, and smarter reminders.

Highlights

  • On-device AI photo search. Describe what you are looking for in plain words — “dogs on a beach” — and the app matches it against content labels generated locally with Apple Vision. Nothing is uploaded, and it works offline.
  • Screen Recordings tool. The largest files most people forget about, listed with real sizes and clearable in one pass.
  • Chat Media tool. Review and clear what WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Telegram, Signal, Messenger, Viber, LINE and WeChat saved into your photo library.
  • Reminders that reflect your actual reclaimable total, and a notice explaining that deletions rest in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
  • Faster, more accurate Smart Categories with local image indexing, plus widget and swipe-flow reliability fixes.

Release notes

TidyByte 1.0.5 adds search to cleanup. Instead of scrolling for a photo, describe it and let local intelligence find it — then delete, keep or organize what comes back. The release also closes two storage leaks that no other tool in the app covered: screen recordings and the media your messaging apps save on your behalf. Everything still runs on your device, with no account, no ads and no subscription.

v1.0.4 — Cleanup tools refresh

Every cleanup tool reworked for speed, honest numbers, and fewer surprises.

Highlights

  • Refreshed Duplicates, Similar Photos, Screenshots, Blurry Photos, Large Files, Bursts, Live Photos, Video Compression and Photo Compression.
  • The keep choices you make in bursts and duplicate groups are now remembered, so a later scan never re-arms a photo you deliberately kept.
  • Honest compression history: failed items are excluded from savings totals, and a compression that would not shrink a file is reported instead of applied.
  • Batch cancellation, clearer progress, and aggregated error summaries across the compression and conversion tools.
  • Expanded automated regression coverage across the cleanup tools and the storage dashboard.

Release notes

TidyByte 1.0.4 is a quality release. The cleanup tools got a UI refresh, the numbers they report were made strictly honest, and the app now respects your decisions across scans instead of re-selecting photos you chose to keep. (Version 1.0.3 was skipped; 1.0.4 followed 1.0.2.)

v1.0.2 — Storage dashboard redesign

Redesigned storage dashboard, cross-tab deep links, and cleanup-tool fixes.

Highlights

  • Redesigned Storage dashboard with a reclaim hero — the biggest wins are surfaced first, with one-tap actions to free them.
  • Cross-tab deep linking: jump straight from a Storage bucket into a swipe session or cleanup tool.
  • Fixes across the cleanup tools (duplicates, screenshots, blurry photos, large files, compression) and a new test suite for the storage dashboard.

Release notes

TidyByte 1.0.2 makes the Storage tab the fastest way to see and reclaim space. The redesigned dashboard ranks cleanup wins by size, and deep links take you straight from a storage bucket into the right tool. This release also hardens the cleanup tools and expands the automated test coverage.

v1.0.1 — iPad support

Native iPad support, album picker fix, and settings layout improvements.

Highlights

  • TidyByte is now a universal app — it runs natively on iPhone and iPad, with all orientations supported on iPad.
  • Fixed the album picker dismissing unexpectedly when starting a swipe session.
  • Improved Settings layout on larger screens.

v1.0 — Initial release

The first public release of TidyByte on the App Store.

Highlights

  • Swipe-based photo review — keep or delete one card at a time.
  • Duplicate & similar photo detection (SHA-256 + Vision feature prints).
  • Blurry photo detection.
  • Screenshot, burst, and Live Photo cleanup.
  • Large file finder.
  • Video compression.
  • Storage dashboard.

Release notes

Welcome to TidyByte 1.0! Swipe to clean your photo library, find duplicates, blurry shots, and large files, convert Live Photos, and compress videos and photos — all free and 100% on your device.

Notes for reviewers

  • Requires iOS 17 or later. Works on iPhone and iPad (universal app).
  • Photo Library (read & write) is required for the swipe and cleanup tools to function.
  • Notifications are optional and requested only if you enable “Cleanup Reminders.”
  • No account, no in-app purchases, no networking. All processing is on-device.

No older releases — TidyByte 1.0 is the first public build.
