Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of TidyByte, the free photo cleanup app for iPhone and iPad and the free Mac cleaner. TidyByte has no accounts, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no ads. If you downloaded the iOS app from the App Store, Apple’s standard End User License Agreement applies to that download, and these terms sit alongside it.

Effective date: November 5, 2026

1. Agreement to these terms

By downloading, installing, or using TidyByte, you agree to these Terms of Service and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not install or use the app. These terms apply to the iOS/iPadOS app distributed through Apple’s App Store and to the Mac app distributed as a download from this site or its GitHub releases.

2. App Store license

When you install the iOS app through Apple’s App Store, Apple’s standard End User License Agreement (EULA) governs that license. Apple, not the developer, is responsible for App Store refunds, support queries related to the store, and handling of your App Store account. Nothing in these terms limits any consumer rights you have that cannot be waived.

3. Open source license

TidyByte’s source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License. You may inspect, build, and modify it under that license. These terms apply to your use of the distributed app; the MIT License governs the source code itself.

4. What the app does

TidyByte helps you manage your own photo library: finding duplicates and similar shots, reviewing screenshots and large files, compressing videos and photos, and freeing storage. The iPhone app works through Apple’s Photos, Vision, and AVFoundation frameworks on your device. Cleanup actions only take effect on media you approve, and deleted items go to the iOS Recently Deleted album.

The app never sends your photos to the developer. See the Privacy Policy for the full data flow.

5. Acceptable use

Use TidyByte only with media you own or have the right to manage. Don’t attempt to redistribute the app as your own in a way that violates the MIT License or App Store rules, don’t misuse Apple’s frameworks through the app, and don’t use the app to break any applicable law.

6. Google Photos source (optional)

In builds with the optional Google Photos source enabled, connecting it means requests are made directly from your device to Google under Google’s Terms of Service and privacy policy. The developer does not receive your Google credentials, your photos, or your API usage. That source is optional and nothing requires connecting it.

7. No warranties

TidyByte is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Cleanup decisions are yours: review the items the app surfaces before confirming any delete or compression. The developer does not warrant the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, photos, or profits arising from your use of or inability to use the app. The app’s safeguards (Recently Deleted, Trash, History with restore) exist precisely because photo management is destructive by nature — confirm before you commit.

9. Changes and termination

The app is free and there is nothing to cancel. You can stop using it at any time by deleting it; on the Mac, uninstalling removes it. If we change these terms materially, we’ll update the effective date above and note it in the changelog. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here takes away consumer protections that mandatory local law grants you.
