Free, no subscription
A free photo cleaner with no subscription and no ads.
No paywall on the delete button. No weekly plan. No ads between photos. Free because there is no TidyByte backend, ad system, or subscription to fund.
Free forever No ads, no subscription Core cleanup runs on-device
The pattern behind “free” cleaner apps
If you have tried more than one iPhone cleaner, you have met the same sequence. The app scans for free, shows you an impressive number, and then stops: deleting is behind a weekly subscription, credits are consumed per file, or the free tier covers a fraction of what you found. The scan was never the product; it was the sales pitch.
The economics explain why. Those apps upload your photos to servers to analyse them, and servers cost money, so a subscription is the only way the maths works. When you understand that, the subscription is not a scam, but it does mean the app is designed around an upload you may not want.
TidyByte is built the other way round: the analysis runs on your device, so there is no server, no bandwidth bill, and nothing to charge for. That is the entire reason it can be free without a catch.
What “free” means in this app
- No in-app purchases in the binary. Not a hidden tier, not a one-time unlock: there is nothing to buy.
- No ads. No ad SDK, no interstitials between photos, no banners over the delete button.
- No account. There is nothing to sign up for and no email to hand over, because there is no server to sign in to.
- No limits. No credits, no daily caps, no “free up to 100 photos”.
- No tracking. No analytics SDK, no usage reporting, no device identifiers leaving the app.
Every cleanup tool is available to every user: duplicates, similar photos, screenshots, screen recordings, chat media, blurry photos, bursts, Live Photos, large files, video compression, image compression, smart categories with AI search, the storage dashboard and the savings ledger.
How to verify any cleaner app, including this one
Claims about privacy are easy to make. Here is how to check them, for TidyByte or for anything else you install.
- Read the App Store privacy label. TidyByte reads “Data Not Collected”. If a cleaner asks for an email or shows a login screen, ask what the account is for.
- Turn on airplane mode. An on-device cleaner keeps working. A cloud-based one stops, which tells you exactly where your photos were going.
- Check whether the app works offline on first launch, before any account exists.
- Read the source if it is open. TidyByte is MIT licensed at github.com/YORDINDIA/tidybyte, so the absence of network code is something you can confirm rather than trust.
- Look for the delete button. If the free tier stops exactly at the moment that matters, that is the business model.
The privacy policy says the same thing in one paragraph: no data collected, no analytics, nothing uploaded.
What you actually get, with no subscription
The full cleanup toolkit
Twelve tools plus swipe review, the storage dashboard, on-device AI photo search, and the Activity & savings ledger that tracks everything you have cleaned and the total space returned.
The extras too
A Home Screen widget showing what is reclaimable, Siri shortcuts and App Intents that jump straight into a cleanup, and optional weekly reminders. None of it is gated.
The app is universal for iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later, and it will keep being free: there is no server cost to recover and no investor expecting a subscription conversion. If you want to support it, the useful contribution is a bug report or a star on GitHub.

Frequently asked questions
Is TidyByte really free, or is there a hidden limit?
It is free with no limits on features or photos. There are no in-app purchases in the binary, no credit system, no trial that ends, and no upgrade prompt. The local tools need no TidyByte backend; the optional Google Photos source connects directly to Google in enabled builds.
Why would a developer give away a photo cleaner?
The local cleanup tools run on your device and there are no paid tiers. TidyByte is MIT open source: the source is public on GitHub, anyone can audit or build it, and there is no analytics or ad SDK.
Does the free version upload my photos to a server?
TidyByte has no server that receives photos. iPhone-library analysis runs locally with Apple's Vision and Photos frameworks. In builds with Google Photos enabled, the app connects directly to Google for sign-in, storage quota, and the items you select; selected previews are scanned on your device.
Do free cleaner apps sell my data?
Some apps use analytics or advertising SDKs, and some send photos to their own servers. TidyByte has no analytics or ad SDK and no server that receives photos. If Google Photos is enabled, the app connects directly to Google for the items you select.
What do I give up by not paying for a cleaner app?
Nothing that matters. Paid cleaners mostly charge for the same functions, sometimes behind credits. TidyByte includes duplicates, similar photos, screenshots, screen recordings, chat media, blur, bursts, Live Photos, large files, video and photo compression, smart categories with AI search, and the storage dashboard, with no paid tier.

Storage cleaner
See exactly what is filling your iPhone, then clear it: duplicates, oversized videos, screenshots, blurry shots and Live Photos. Free, with iPhone-library cleanup on-device.
-
Duplicate cleaner
Exact copies matched byte-for-byte, plus near-identical shots grouped by Apple's Vision framework. Review every group, keep the best, delete the rest.
-
Image compression
Re-encode the photos that are larger than they need to be, choose the quality, and see exactly how many megabytes each one returned.
-
Similar photos
Twenty shots of the same moment, one worth keeping. Group them, score them, keep the best — without a subscription.
-
Screenshot cleaner
Screenshots pile up faster than any other kind of photo. Find them all, review them in one list, clear them in a single pass.
-
Blurry photos
Sharpness, darkness and overexposure scored on-device, with a sensitivity control you can tune. Keep the memories, bin the misses.
-
Large files
The few files that eat most of your storage are videos. Sort them by size, decide file by file, then delete or compress.
-
Burst photos
A ten-second burst is thirty photos, and twenty-nine of them are waste. Group them, keep the best frame, clear the rest.
-
Live Photo converter
Every Live Photo carries a short video you rarely watch. Keep the still, lose the motion, keep the metadata.
-
Video compression
4K clips are what fill iPhones. Re-encode them at a preset you choose, check the real file size, then decide what to do with the original.
-
Photo organizer
Sort thirty thousand photos without renaming a single file: browse by category, year or album, and make keep-or-delete decisions in one pass.
-
Screen recordings
Screen recordings are the largest files nobody remembers making. Find every one, see its size, and clear them in a single pass.
-
Chat media
Every chat app quietly saves photos and videos into your library. Review them by album and clear the ones you never meant to keep.
-
AI photo search
Describe what you are looking for. Local AI searches the iPhone library on-device and works offline for photos already available there. Optional Google Photos is separate in enabled builds.
Free, and it stays free.
